The short answer: It depends! We pledge by year end to have given all surplus/profits to our partner 501c3 charities. This will be validated by a 3rd party.
And if you purchase through a Partner's referral link, they will directly receive, at minimum, whatever % is pledged to them (typically 20%). This includes all future spending you return for, including subscriptions! This means subscriptions--and referring your friends for subscriptions--are a powerful way to convert your coffee spending into real charitable impact for your favorite non-profit or school.
The long answer: Our target is for 20-40% of all purchases to go to charity. The larger we grow, the higher % we can afford to give.
Heartland Coffee only opened officially in January 2025, completely independently with no outside funding. Technically, we aren't even profitable yet!--the founder is paying out of pocket the costs to launch the business. Nevertheless, even during this "bootstrapped" time, Heartland has committed to giving a minimum of 5% total, including the 20% pledged to Partners on referrals made through their referral links.
Plus, we offer the option to donate directly. 100% of donations go to 501c3 charity partners, and will be tax-deductible (once the newly opened Heartland Coffee Foundation receives 501c3 status from the IRS, a process which can take several months. Once status is received, all your donations prior to that day will become retroactively eligible for tax deduction.)
